Food Trip: Cheap Thrills Part I

Kaeiy is listening to: Samson - Regina Spektor

Okay, cheap thrills! I love those little snacks that come in tiny packs and cost anywhere from 50 cents to 2 pesos. This little article is my tribute to the little things in life... literally!

1. Chikito - Think Crackernuts (Nagaraya) but smaller. I prefer the hot and spicy variant over the regular one (shempre, ako pa!); best taken with Coke sakto (200ml).

2. Meringue - I know this is not usually a cheap thrill but this variant is the sort you'd find selling for 70 to 85 cents each wholesale in the dry-goods area of the market, and 1 peso each . It comes in four colors (not flavors; it all tastes the same): white, pink, orange and green. I prefer them fresh and crisp out of the plastic bag (ugh, more waste for the environment) while Jeni prefers them makunat. Eeew... but hey, to each her own!

3. Tomi - In sweet corn flavor. That's the only one I'd eat. It's like eating sugared corn kernels without the mess.

Since I've been staying over at Jeni's frequently I learned to play lots of card games, all of them involving gambling (har har). I can play a mean game of pusoy and I think my pusoy dos game improved because of that. I learned to play poker and mahjong and I don't think I've lost yet (beginner's luck is still with me, hyuk hyuk).

Also, I gained lots of weight as Jeni also packed on the pounds. (Un)fortunately, we're both food-lovers: I love trying out new stuff and she gamely eats whatever I suggest (I'm pickier than her, actually. Go figure!) so most of our savings go to eating out. Harhar... We try to play badminton at least twice a week but with this kind of schedule (which I'm still getting used to) isn't exactly making things easy for us!

Anyway, I gotta catch my forty winks. It's been a loooooong week. G'nyt folks!

I had wanted Wendy or Mickey to win so I was so happy when Gee-Ann was proclaimed the 4th big winner. I hated that her fans were so rude as to boo the Wendy impersonator and later, Wendy herself. Being Gee Ann's fans gives them no right whatsoever to judge Wendy in whatever way. I think Wendy is really strong and she stands up for what she believes in and for the people she cherish. She fought for her love and she is obviously devoted to her family. She is brave and strong and I think women should be more like her in terms of self-confidence and grit. Sana, bago sila pumuna ng baho ng iba ay pansinin muna nila ang putok nila! Grabe, they booed Wendy even while she spoke! Doesn't that behavior reflect the person they idolize? I know Gee Ann fans will probably say I have no right to judge Gee Ann in whatever way either. Well, I didn't! So there! I did not like Gee Ann when she was in the house. I still don't like her (nor Beatrice). But like I said, to each her own.

I still like Wendy and she is still a winner for me. So there (again)!

Change is inevitable. Change is good. There can be no progress without change. But what if that change takes you away from everything and everyone you know and love? It's really hard right now but I know things will get better as time passes. Bagong experience ito. After all, what does not kill me only makes me stronger. Bring it on!

My stargazer-in-training,

As the tides of fate sweep us away from each other physically, I know that the bond of our love draws us closer as it has always done.

We may not have so much time as we used to to to lay down under the heavens and gaze at stars but when we do, I know the time we spent apart will be well worth it.

Be strong, my love. I will be here always.

Your stargazer
